We're family

Since our business began in 1948, we have remained family owned and operated. C. N. Brown began as a logging company, and has since grown into one that owns and operates all Big Apple Food Stores and Red Shield Heating Oil locations throughout New England. Through this growth we have remained true to our mission and promise: Moving forward to provide legendary service and quality products to all our customers.

Red Shield Heating Oil

After years of expanding the heating oil portion of the company, C.N. Brown added Red Shield in the summer of 1989. Red Shield is a detergent additive which cleanses the fuel oil, distinguishing it from other brands. There are currently 34 Heating Oil Offices in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Big Apple Food Stores

In the 1980s the company began to see a growing trend towards convenience

stores at service stations. Many of our stations were renovated, adding a market for food, drink and other "on the road" necessities. It proved to be yet another sign of C.N. Brown's dedication toward customer service with 87 Big Apple Food Stores open throughout New England.
